Motor Skills

Basic motor patterns are categorized for the sake of comparing and contrasting ideas and choosing options for learners. A developmental task analysis represents several variables that influence performance of a motor skill, and a way to order the difficulty within each variable. An example for catching is provided.

Examples of Activities

The motor skills and activities included are generic in that they are not specific to a particular sport, and groupings distinguish whether they involve just a ball or other small equipment. Within a given link to activities, items are listed in their approximate order of difficulty and they are not intended to be exhaustive. Within the "ball control" and "dribbling & passing" options, highlighted names of skills may be selected to view a short video clip. Motor skill task sheets provide examples of materials to use to help teach concepts and skills and to monitor student progress. Naturally, materials may need to be modified for the developmental levels of learners.
