Studio Guidelines

Safety glasses are to be worn by everyone in the studio whenever anyone in the studio is using power tools.
Sculpture studio activity involves certain risks, and some of the equipment and power tools in the studio can seriously injure you if you misuse it. Understand, observe, and use equipment in a safe fashion. See instructor, TA, or Studio Assistant prior to use if you are unsure about using any tools or equipment.
Report any damaged or missing equipment to the instructor or Studio Assistant immediately in order to keep all equipment in safe working order. Individuals with disabilities or special needs related to using the studio and facilities should contact the instructor. Hearing protection and dust masks should be worn when appropriate. See the instructor for approval before bringing any suspected toxic or hazardous materials into the studio. Individuals should refer to MSDS guidelines when using any hazardous or suspected hazardous materials particularly those students with pregnancies or suspected pregnancies. Follow appropriate guidelines for use and disposal when using hazardous materials. All other safety guidelines established by the art faculty, Studio Assistant, and TA’s should be followed at all times.
  Studio Practices

Tools and equipment are not to leave the studio under any circumstances, at any time, even if you are working on you project in another location.

Cell phones and pagers are to be left outside the studio during class time.

Coats, bags, and personal items are to be left outside the studio.
Individuals are responsible for maintaining the area and cleaning up after themselves (returning tools and materials to their respective places, picking up debris, sweeping up sawdust, etc). This is a community studio and everyone should be considerate of the needs of others. Be sure that when you are working you are not damaging the work of others around you. This is particularly true of plaster and painting projects. All tools should be returned to the cabinet in good working order when you are finished working with them, free of plaster, clay and other materials. After critique and evaluation of projects, they must be removed from the studio. The sculpture/design studio cannot accommodate storage of artwork over extended periods of time. Likewise, the studio cannot accommodate storage of large amounts of personal materials for an extended period. If you need to have art or materials stored in the studio for more than a day or two, make special arrangements with the instructor. Music will be allowed in the studio if it does not interfere with normal conversation. Everyone has veto power over any music played.
