Circuit
A circuit is a fun way to challenge students of all ages with a variety of exercises. Students can travel and complete activities in groups of four to six. Have equipment ready at each station so each group member can participate simultaneously. Including upbeat music is more motivating. Groups may rotate each time the music stops, after intervals of 1-2 minutes. Teachers may elect to complete the circuit once or twice, depending on time allotted. The following circuit contains six activities. Time may be conserved by explaining activities briefly, and posting descriptions of exercises at each station. Posters and directions may be printed below.
Super Steppin'
Have students alternate feet while stepping up and down on the bleachers or folded mats. The cadence is "up, up, down, down."
Announcing Bouncing
Spread 10-15 markers inside a relatively small area (about 1/4 of volleyball court) Have students bounce-catch or dribble a ball while moving continuously without touching any markers.
Jump'n Jam
Have students jump rope continuously any way they wish. Naturally, students begin again any time they miss a jump.
Fabulous Flexibility
Have students stretch some part of their upper bodies. Have students stretch some part of their lower bodies.
Curls are Pearls
Have students curl stomach up and down continuously.
Slimy Seals
Have students seal walk continuously around the markers. Students have more room if they begin at different markers.
Alternatives: Any exercise may be substituted or added, as long as the same muscle groups are not stressed 2-3 times consecutively. In addition, the teacher may designate a means of traveling between stations, such as traveling sideways, or with three body parts touching the floor.
