Old Object/New Use

Old object/New use provides a way to apply the "substitute" and "put to other uses" ideas of the SCAMPER framework. Bring in any familiar object from home or use objects around school to do the following exercise. Ask the students to list or act out many new uses for a familiar object. You could use a paper plate to begin with, and see how many new things the students will discover.

Example:

Use it as a base.

Use it as a fan.

Use it as a frisbee.

Use it as a hat.

Use it as a tray.

(etc.)
