Creative Dramas: Picture the Possibilities
Step 5: Highlight key words
Highlighting each action word and descriptor gives teachers an overview of what movement ideas have been incorporated thus far. In this way, the variety of ideas becomes readily apparent, and if the ideas are developmentally and culturally appropriate. After a story is fine tuned, retaining the highlighting helps teachers emphasize key ideas of a story by using different voice inflections. An example of highlighting is indicated with underlining in the context of a completed creative drama. Select "creative drama examples" below, and then select the "Not so amusing" example. Nouns need not be highlighted because they are the easiest to understand, and because highlighting too many words achieves "overkill" when reading the script.
