Creative Dramas: Picture the Possibilities
Step 3: Brainstorm movement ideas
Brainstorming provides a way to record many images and movement ideas that are consistent with the topic. Initially, ideas flow more easily if teachers avoid sequencing or even screening ideas. The Torrance (1974) model may be used to generate categories of ideas (flexibility), followed by examples in each category (fluency). Flexibility and fluency are depicted in Table 1 for the idea "round." Examples represent a small sampling, rather than an exhaustive list. "Items in sky", "expressions" and "foods" are possible labels of categories. Within the foods category could be listed "orange", "coined carrots", "meatball" and "gumball." Gumball is the topic of the "sticky situation" creative drama. This drama, along with other examples, are accessible below.
