I have not provided a MIDI transcriptions for the three African American Spirituals because of Allen, Ware, & Garrison's description of the near hopelessness of transcribing what they actually heard. A mechanical sound transcription of what they called "a faint shadow of the original" would outline the shadow but still leave the original a mystery. (Read their words in the introduction to this section.)
