Mark D. Rhoads I am Professor of Music at Bethel University in St. Paul, Minnesota where I teach in the areas of sacred music, music education, and choral music. I have served as chair of the Minnesota Society for Music Teacher Education and was a member of the Minnesota state music education licensure committee. In addition I have taught hymnology in the Masters of Liturgy program at St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota. My research interests include all aspects of American hymnody with a special interest in the early 19th-century reform movement. I am a graduate of Biola University and hold a masters degree in choral conducting from California State University, Fullerton where I studied with Howard Swan. I received the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in music education and choral conducting from the University of Oregon and have studied choral conducting with Helmuth Rilling at the Oregon Bach Festival. Before going to Bethel University I taught choral and general music in a Los Angeles-area middle school and was a professor at Judson Baptist College in Oregon. I have been active in church music for the past 40 years. My wife and I live in Lino Lakes, Minnesota. We have three grown daughters and five grandsons. |
