FTP using FTP clients(this is the most common way for Macintosh users to FTP)
Mac users will need to use a seperate FTP program. The Mac version of Internet explorer doesn't have the ability to upload files. It can only download files. Fetch is a free program for education users.
  • In the host field you will need to use:

    avalon.its.bethel.edu for Avalon
    jericho.its.bethel.edu for Jericho
    samuel.its.bethel.edu for Samuel
    usonia2.its.bethel.edu for Usonia

And then you user ID or Login name and password.

  • Upon successful login, a window with the available folders will be displayed that you then can browse.

  • FTP Personal Webpages using web creation software of FTP clien
  • In browser where "username" is your "logon name")
    ftp://username@ftp.bethel.edu/

  • Set FTP clients to: ftp.bethel.edu

Set the target folder to: public_html

    then enter login and password.
  • Departmental Webpages using drop folders
  • People authorised to post to Departmental Web pages will have a folder in their unix directories.
Unix directories show up when the user FTPs to them.
Depending on which version of Internet Explorer the user has on their Windows machine they can enter the FTP infromation in their "Network Neighborhood" or equivalent address field. If the user is entering the FTP information into Netscape Navigator they will get a window that looks and behaves more like an FTP client. Remind users to empty cache and erase history after using Web Browsers to FTP to secure passwords on Windows machines.

CARS
  URL for CARS Terminal
  http://genesis.admin.bethel.edu:9045/mtongen.html

MINDTERM on Genesis is a Java App that provides an SSH session via a web browser and is the preferred method of connecting to CARS from off Campus. It will take a considerable time to down load the application the first time it is run, so the user should be warned. (The wait maybe minutes the first time according to Dave). As a last resort we can set people up with the CARS Dail Up if they can not get MINDTERM to work succesfully.
