This is more of an open yard with some landscaping done around it. There are some trees, but for the most part its just an open area that is well kept. This could be used for playing in or just walking.
Here is an example of a very landscaped yard with not much space for activities. It is more for walking through and enjoying nature.
 This house has some nice landscaping and is kept up really well. The plants have all been trimmed and shaped to how they want them. It does seem to have somewhat of an open yard that could be used for activities.

 This scene depicts more of a social setting. There is a picnic table with chairs for people to gather together. It is somewhat sectioned off from the rest of the yard by landscaping. There is some open space where kids could play while their parents could enjoy the patio.
This is a great example of an open field where there are a few plants for aesthetics, but a big open chunk of grass where activities can occur. Here they are playing croquet at what seems to be a social gathering. This is great for helping people get to know each other.
This is similar to the first couple- a section of open grass with a few trees and landscaping closing it all off. Again, this could be used for some activities (even though limited space) or things such as walking.
Here we have total gardens. This type of garden is only for looks. It just contains plants which are pleasing to the eye and nothing like palnts for food. It takes quite some work to obtain a garden such as this and much up-keep is needed. It is great for walking.
This is the first picture of a food garden. It serves a practical purpose and gives the gardeners food product. This could be a private garden or a community garden.
This picture contains a slightly lower maintenance garden. The plants come up every year and don't need much work to maintain them. It is great for the type of setting shown (maybe something like an old age home or retirement center, or even just a community center).
This is a beautiful flower garden which would require much up-keep. It requires a dedicated gardener to watch over it and do chores such as water and weed it. It is a v ery decorative idea and makes any place look great.
Our last picture contains another garden used for food. It is a great idea to get kids involved like this picture depicts. It keeps them busy and out of trouble. They will also have more respect for something they actually had a part in.
